andrew boyle said...

You can do this. But the phone won't activate. I did this with 5.0. The phone will literally sit there in activation mode and there is no way around it. Without paying for the Apple Developer program.

Is anyone having trouble connecting to the iPhone update server after selecting the .ispw file?

Daniel Vanderlaan said...

it works!!!!!! it takes a little bit longer to install than stock ios.

Anonymous said...

After converting the file from .dmg to .ispw it wouldn't let me connect to the server/update to iOS 7. I already tried updating with the original file by selecting "Restore" and then choosing the .ispw file. Giving it another shot after rebooting to iOS 6 but this time I've selected "Check for update" while holding "option"... I'll let you know if it works for me.

How exactly did you get it to work!? Passed activation too??

My iPhone doesn't have a Jailbreak. Can I install this iOS 7 Beta? It's an iPhone 5

Anonymous said...

So is it working without registered UDID or not? Can anyone confirm?

Anonymous said...

Here's what worked for me. First restore your phone through itunes and back to ios 6.1.4. Then when you get to the setup screen after your restore, MAKE SURE to set up your phone and go all the way to the homescreen and set your device up as new. After that go back into itunes and on windows you click shift+check for update and on mac I believe it's ctrl+check for update. Then find and select the ipsw file that you downloaded and when your device is done updating it should just boot to the homescreen and not even go through the setup process.

Anonymous said...

and again, does this really work? have finished downloading but dont wanna install unless i have a guarantee it works

Danyel Tinajero said...

Do I Need to convert the file that i've donwloaded? Can you help me?

Anonymous said...

for those who has sucessfully installed, which iPhone are you using? iPhone 5/4s/4?

Anonymous said...

I'm stuck at activation. how to bypass that?

Anonymous said...

iPhone 4 GSM, - currently it's restoring from backup, does activation come before or after? It's taking it's time seemingly.

Anonymous said...

I keep getting the "iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable." error. Help?!

Anonymous said...

Just an FYI:

This article is MISLEADING!!!!!

Doesn't work w/o a Dev's account ... and u will not be able to restore your j/b if u attempt this process from 6.0.1 ;)

Feel free to try it at ur own risk BUT don't say I told u so,

C.

Anonymous said...

Ok, It finally booted and it worked.

1. Backup to icloud.
2. Restore to 6.1.3
3. Set up as new phone - do not restore from backup.
4. Upgrade and manually select ios7 file.
5. Let it do it's thing
6. When it rebooted i Put in wifi password and restored from icloud backup.
7. Done

A few things, software is deinfately very beta. Inconsistent keyboard behaviour, massive amount of pop ups after the restore so obviously some kinks there. List goes on, looks interesting though. From the looks of things though, it's very much designed for an iphone 5 size screen, iphone 4 seems too short for the interface and choice in design.

Isel Bernal said...

Funciona a la perfeccion

YAYYYY
I also update sucessfully.
iPhone 4S - factory unlocked.
didnt ask me anything (UDID or email)
i just selected the ipsw and it did everything in 6 minutes (approximately)

How to convert dmg file to ipsw?

Anonymous said...

Guys. I definitely works... just backed up my phone (6.1.4) then help option in itunes to update.. it installed / rebooted the phone.. synced... held my breath while I hit unlock.. and it worked!!!. :) Good luck everyone.

Arun Roy said...

Dude, thank you!! This worked perfectly, for everyone else, just backup your iDevice and restore to ios 6.1.3 or if you have an iPhone 5 just restore to 6.1.4. After you've restored to your respective firmware, set up as a NEW PHONE, DO NOT set up from backup. Once completed, press Shift + Click Update button in iTunes and browse for your iOS 7 beta 1 software and let it do its own thing. It WILL NOT ask for activation rather it will boot you the home screen and afterwards you are free to backup your device.

Arun Roy said...

Download and install PowerISO, open the dmg file and the ipsw file will be within it, just click it and extract to where ever you want

Anonymous said...

can you please upload the converted file so that we dont have to convert it ourselves. PLEASE. Greatly appreciated!

Anonymous said...

YES PLEASE SHARE EXTRACTED IPSW FILE FOR IPHONE 4S SO THAT WE DO NOT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD PROGRAM TO EXTRACT IT OURSELVES. THANK YOU!!!

Guys don't do a Restore.. do Shift + Update this will fix the activation issue

Anonymous said...

You mean Firmware? Anyway update or unjailbreak your phone. Right now I have it on there but I am trying to get past the same problem most everyone is having.

I connected to itunes. > Click Shift + Update > It took 4-5 min to update and afterwards it didn't ask for any activation. (Previously I used Shift + Restore, I got stuck at Activation)

@toqord

Muchas gracias por el aporte....

Fastjordan said...

Okay let me state the obvious which was mentioned tons of times in this post:

- In order to update to iOS 7 beta 1, you MUST have a developer's account: if you don't, keep reading.

- You can find iOS 7 beta 1 over the internet and restore your iphone to that firmware. HOWEVER, once you try to come back to iTunes or set up your new phone on iOS 7, and you DON'T have a developers account, then the phone and itunes will say you need to validate the phone with a valid iphone developers portal.

This being said, there is no way around it. Your iphone or idevice is now what we call "bricked", meaning it's unusable. You can't use the phone itself nor use itunes to restore. However, thanks to the Jailbreak Community, there are two options to save your iDevice:

1. If your still in your 1-year warranty plan, take the phone back to Apple, Rogers, Bell, etc. wherever you bought it and show them it doesn't work - so they have to give you a fresh device.

2. If your out of luck (your warranty has expired) no worries! You'll need to put your device in Recovery Mode. Here's how:

1. Plug your iDevice into your computer and open iTunes (make sure it's latest version)
2. Press and hold the power button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds, and after 10 seconds, release the POWER BUTTON only.
3. iTunes will tell you it has recognized a device in Recovery Mode and that you now must restore it.
4. From here on, you can choose to restore your device back to ios 6.x.x (iPhone 5 will restore back to 6.1.4 while other devices will restore back to 6.1.3).

Doing this will save your phone from being bricked.

And for those who don't like to read, I suggest you read this post. This DOES NOT WORK. I downloaded iOS 7 beta 1, restored it on my iphone, got everything working until the pop-up came saying I needed a developers account. I thereore had to restore back to 6.1.4. Trust me guys, don't do it! You'll regret spending that 2 hours just to get your phone back on!

mamabear said...

so, what your saying is.. even you updated to iOs7 and will run it smoothly, it will STILL ASK for a developers account later on?..

Bimu said...

iPhone 4, downloaded the firmware. extracted the same and iTunes says firmware not compatible....

marnix van der Kolk said...

I was very sceptical 2 but it DOES work. I hooked my foon up to the latest itunes (on a PC) made a backup just in case. Did NOT set up the foon as new to begin with. Downloaded the file from the link on top. With DMG extractor i got the ipws (if thats the name) and put it somewhere i could find it.
Then in itunes pressed the UPDATE (not restore) button while holding shift. You are then asked to pick the ipws file you want to use. Of course the one you extracted yourself. Pick that and thats it. After a few minutes Your foon is on iOS7 beta. Since i didnt set up as a new foon al my apps are stil there and working.

therefore you don't need to restore it later with itunes its stil the way it was !

And i didnt believe it either before i did it :-)

I just wanted to reiterate that YES you can install it, YES there is a way to bypass the activation screen (a bit tricky) but even if you do, the phone WILL NOT WORK without the $99 per year. You will be able to see all the icons but the phone will not work/call/email/message/nothing. If you want to go through all this just to see the looks, you can (i did) but you need to restore to previous version for the phone to be operational again.

7. Done

use these steps and it will work. I never write reviews but since this time the steps worked, i wrote this review to show it actually works without having a developers account.
